Application Information for the 2008-09 School Year

SunRidge School is a Waldorf methods charter school within the Twin Hills Union
School District. Our classes are small (18—24), and our curriculum emphasizes
developmentally appropriate attention to academic skills within a holistic context that
includes art, music, drama, foreign language, movement, and handwork. We have an
involved, supportive parent body, a talented and dedicated faculty, and a collaborative
model of governance. We serve approximately 200 students in grades K–8.

Enrollment in a charter school is a choice made by parents to participate in the
alternative educational approach offered by that charter school. For this reason, it is
essential that interested parents become knowledgeable about SunRidge’s approach to
education so that they can make an informed decision about whether it matches what
they want for their child.

For this reason, our enrollment process includes the following:
February 11 - March 14: The Open Enrollment Period, during which applications must
be submitted in order to be considered. Order of receipt of applications during the open
enrollment period is not a factor in the selection process (no first-come, first-served).
Kindergarten Visits: Visits to our kindergartens (we have two kindergarten classes) can
be made by appointment.

Wednesdays, February 27 & March 5: “Walk Through the Grades” (1st through 8th).
Interested parents may observe our classes on either of these two days. The “walk
through” begins at 9:00am and takes approximately 1.5 hours. You must sign up in
advance by calling 824-2844.

Saturday, March 8 (10:00am - 12:00pm) or Thursday, March 13 (7:00 - 9:00pm):
Applicant Orientation to SunRidge School. These presentations will provide essential
information and answer questions about the school. Attendance at one of these orientations
is a required step in the application process. Sign up by calling 824-2844.

Following the open enrollment period, a lottery will be held for each class that has more
applicants than available spaces, resulting in a waiting list showing order of enrollment
for available spaces. Applicants will be offered a family conference/interview based on
their order on this list. This conference is also a requirement of the application process.

Once an applicant has completed all steps of the application process (application form,
orientation presentation, and family conference), the applicant family will be notified in
writing if a space is being offered to them. The space must be accepted in writing by
signing and returning the Agreement of Parent Expectations within a specified time, or the
applicant’s position on the waiting list may be forfeited.
