Nurturing, Imaginative, From the Heart…
SunRidge is a Waldorf inspired charter school located in beautiful west Sonoma County, serving over 240 students in kindergarten through 8th grade. We use a Waldorf curriculum and methods to meet children’s needs holistically and at their developmental level.
In our one- and two-year kindergartens, handwork, crafts, baking, gardening, storytelling, puppetry, rhythmic movement, music, nature walks and lots of outdoor play time lay a healthy foundation for each child’s physical, social and academic development.
In the grades, academic subjects are presented artistically, imaginatively, and kinesthetically to engage children emotionally and physically as well as intellectually. Visual, expressive, and practical arts are an integral part of the school day, including painting, drawing, speech and drama, handwork, woodwork, gardening, cooking, singing, instrumental music, and movement.
Enriching field trips, including overnights starting in 3rd grade, provide children with real-world learning experiences in areas that complement the curriculum of their grade.
SunRidge is committed to prepare our graduates for success in both public and private high schools without “teaching to the test” or overburdening students’ home lives with too much homework. We believe the best preparation for high school and life is when students learn how to think, problem solve, be creative, and strive to understand and care about the complexity and beauty of human cultures and the natural world.
