Description of Organizational Chart Roles/Positions
Twin Hills Board of Trustees: Legal governing body for the school; sets policies, approves calendars, hiring, handles payroll, accounting, insurance, etc.
Charter Council: SunRidge governing body serving as delegate body of the Twin Hills Board for purposes of overseeing the operations of SunRidge School. Develops and recommends school policies, programs, budget, calendars, etc. Evaluates School Director. Includes 3 faculty, 3 parents, and 1 non-parent community member. Director is non-voting member.
Director: Responsible for the daily operations and management of the school, hiring, supervision and evaluation of all staff, budget development and implementation, educational program, site needs, enrollment, coordination/leadership, etc.
Educational Coordinator: Provides educational support to teachers and, serves as designee of the Executive Director in matters of teacher supervision, evaluation, educational program planning and coordination, scheduling, procuring teaching resources, parent communication, and other administrative tasks as needed.
Admin. Group: Group of senior faculty members (2-3) who meet weekly with Director to prepare faculty meeting agendas, identify school and faculty needs, and implement plans for addressing identified needs.
Faculty: Responsible for the delivery of the educational program; works collaboratively with the Director in developing, evaluating, and implementing school procedures, plans, and programs. Three representatives serve on the Charter Council.
Parent Council: Parent representatives from each class working to support a thriving school community through events, activities, fundraising, parent education, and community forums. Oversees committees and work groups set up to support school activities, events, and goals.
SunRidge Community Service Coordinator: Organizes and coordinates SunRidge community service program, matching school service needs with parents to fill those needs.
SunRidge Educational Foundation: Not-for-profit corporation that exists to support SunRidge School through serving as fiscal agent for fundraising, and fund development through grant writing and donor campaigns.
Coordinating Team: Group comprised of the Director, a Faculty member, the Parent Council Chairperson, a Charter Council member, a Foundation member, and the Volunteer Coordinator, that meets as needed to ensure that school-wide activities are well planned, coordinated, and successfully implemented.
Committees: Parent and staff groups working under the oversight of the Parent Council to address identified needs. May include Fundraising, Site Development, Parent Education, Festivals and Events.
Advisory Groups: Parent and staff groups with interest in ensuring that key SunRidge values are well integrated into all aspects of the school’s operations, programs, events, and activities. Key values include: Diversity; Social/Emotional Learning; Collaboration/Communication; and Environmental Consciousness/Practices. Advisory group members communicate suggestions,
ideas, and resources to any of the above listed entities.
Work Teams: Designated parent groups that assist with work needed to put on school events and projects.
SunRidge Charter Council
The SunRidge Charter Council acts in an advisory capacity for the school to the Twin Hills School Board and the SunRidge Director, and serves as a delegate body of the THUSD to set school policies, plans, procedures, and priorities as outlined in its charter or in annual contracts or memoranda of understanding.
The Charter Council consists of a minimum of five (5) members: two (2) teachers, two (2) parents and one non-parent community member. Membership may be expanded as needed, with the intention of keeping the ratio of parents to faculty members equal. Elected members of the council serve staggered terms of two or three years, with the possibility of reappointment. The SunRidge Director participates in the Charter Council meetings as a non-voting member of the Council.
The Faculty selects the faculty representatives to the Charter Council. The Parent Council recommends parent representatives and the charter council selects the non-parent representative.
The Charter Council meets at least monthly during the school year. All Charter Council meetings are conducted in accordance with the Brown Act and applicable public meeting laws.
The Charter Council is responsible for preparing any and all modifications to the charter, which require the agreement of the full Charter Council. Any Charter Council recommendations to modify the school charter must be approved by the Twin Hills Union School District Board of Trustees prior to implementation. Material revisions and amendments shall be made pursuant to the standards, criteria and time lines in Education Code Section 47605.
The day-to-day operations of the Charter School are the responsibility of the Director, working in collaboration with the Charter Council. The Charter Council approves and oversees all school policies and programs to ensure that the Director’s decisions and actions are fully informed and in alignment with the school’s charter. Areas of responsible oversight for the Charter Council include but are not limited to the following:
SunRidge Parent Council
SunRidge Charter School supports the active involvement of parents in the life of the school. To that end, a Parent Council will be established and operate at SunRidge.
The Parent Council will be comprised of one parent representative from each class, selected in a manner determined by the class. The Parent Council will meet monthly. School administrators, faculty members, and other members of the school community will be invited to participate at meetings.
Parent representatives will serve one-year terms that begin in October each year. Representatives may serve more than one term if re-selected by their class. Representatives will: attend meetings; become involved in Parent Council discussions, activities, and decisions; report back to other parents in their respective classes; and get input from those other parents.
One parent representative, selected by the Council as chair, will facilitate Parent Council meetings or assign that role to another member. Another representative will be selected by the Council as treasurer and will maintain the financial records for the funds raised and allocated by the Council. A Secretary will be selected from either the membership of the Parent Council or from the parent body at large to take minutes at the meetings. Every effort will be made to make Parent Council decisions by consensus of the members present. If the facilitator deems it necessary for the good of the school, decisions may be made by a majority vote of the members present.
The Parent Council will:
• Sponsor school committees, cultural activities, social activities, clubs, and fundraising events in collaboration with school administrators and the faculty
• Be a forum for learning about the school’s educational program and discussing matters of interest or concern to parents
• Act as a communication channel between parents and the administration, parents and faculty, and parents and the Charter Council
• Allocate Parent Council fundraised monies - using established spending priorities as a guide for benefiting the school’s overall operations
• Recommend parent representatives to the Charter Council from nominees proposed by the Charter Council through the designated nomination process.
• Coordinate with the Charter Council through a variety of means, including joint meetings, having a Parent Council representative attend Charter Council meetings, sharing minutes, etc.

- In collaboration with the Superintendent, conducting an annual evaluation of the SunRidge Director
- In collaboration with the Director, evaluating the performance of the Charter Council
- With the Superintendent, selecting and recommending the hiring of a new Director, or the termination of a current Director, to the Twin Hills Board of Trustees
