Raising Happiness by Cristine Carter, Ph.D
“What do we wish most for our children? Next to being healthy, we want them to be happy of course! Drawing on what psychology, sociology, and neuroscience have proven about confidence, gratefulness, and optimism, and using her own chaotic and often hilarious real-world adventures as a mom, Christine Carter, Ph.D., a sociologist for UC Berkeley’s Greater Good Science Center, introduces 10 key steps to help you set the stage for your children’s happiness into their adolescence and beyond-and, in the process, become more joyful yourself.”

The Happy Movie by Roko Belic
Does money make you HAPPY? Kids and family? Your work? Do you live in a world that values and promotes happiness and well-being? Are we in the midst of a happiness revolution?
Roko Belic, director of the Academy Award® nominated “Genghis Blues” now brings us HAPPY, a film that sets out to answer these questions and more. Taking us from the bayous of Louisiana to the deserts of Namibia, from the beaches of Brazil to the villages of Okinawa, HAPPY explores the secrets behind our most valued emotion.
The book club/film pairing will be kicked off with a screening of the film “Happy” on January 11th from 6-8 pm in the Library.*
Here’s how we will be hosting the book club: Each Monday for 8 weeks, we’ll meet in the Sunridge Library at 1:30 to review the week’s chapter followed by a discussion question or two. Even if you are not reading along, we hope you will join in the conversation. Raising Happiness is not really a book to be read and acted on all at once. It is better to discuss one concept at a time. Although, for parents that can’t make the weekly Monday afternoon meetings, we will have two Friday night “happy hour” meetings at Hop Monk Tavern in Sebastopol, dates TBA.
We will hold our first afternoon Book Club on Monday January 14th. So go head to our library to grab a copy of Raising Happiness, or to Copperfields book store in Sebastopol.
*Childcare will be provided. Please RSVP with Carol in the office @ clhoover@sunridgeschool.org.
