Student Antigen Test Kit Distribution
Dear SunRidge Families, January 12, 2022
The antigen tests for student use at home have arrived. Please read the following information carefully.
Kit Distribution
Antigen test kits will be distributed to families this week on Thursday and Friday, 1/13 and 1/14. Kits will be provided at the pick-up and drop-off areas. We won't be able to discuss them with you at that time, so please read this information and the instructions that come with the kits. These kits have been provided by the state to make tests more accessible so that students can be screened, positive cases identified, and transmission reduced.
Please contact the office if it is not possible to distribute your kits to you at drop-off or pick up. Kits must be picked by an adult.
Use the test kit to test your child as soon as possible
The kits contain two tests and are for student use only. You will receive a kit for each student you have at SunRidge. The test kits are to be used as soon as possible. Instructions are supplied with the kits.
Test a second time
Each kit contains two tests with the intention that each student is tested again within 1-3 days.
We're hoping everyone can stay positive and test negative!

COVID UPDATE from Ms. Kalen 12.1.21
SunRidge follows Public Health protocols when a positive COVID case has occurred on campus. For each case, we check with the district COVID supervisor and then notify parents and staff of affected classrooms. If you have a COVID concern, please call the office to receive accurate information. We are all learning how to respond and developing resilience during this pandemic. Our goal is to keep the students and everyone around them as safe and healthy as possible. We will get through this together!
Number of Positive Cases on Campus:

COVID Update from Ms. Kalen 11.17.21
I've spoken to several parents and appreciate the opportunity to understand parent concerns and provide additional information:
Testing
SunRidge offers free testing to students and staff when a class has been exposed to COVID. Tests collected on Monday or Tuesday morning are batched and taken to the district office on Tuesday. From there it goes to a pick-up location in Sebastopol where a courier transports the batch to a lab in Southern California. Once the lab receives it (which could be Wednesday) the results are usually received within 48-72 hours. We have pick-up days of Tuesday and Thursday so we have made testing available Monday - Thursday.
If time is of the essence, a medical professional or health clinic may have a shorter turnaround time. There is also a clinic in Sebastopol that performs rapid PCR tests within 30 minutes; these tests are expensive ($100+). Hopefully, this technology will become cheaper and more available soon.
The SunRidge office follows through with each student's test results or quarantine protocol. When your child takes a COVID test at school or an outside facility, please email the results to tthomasson@twinhillsusd.org.
Please email or call the office if you have questions about your child returning to school.
Antigen tests are acceptable if it is the first test taken following a COVID exposure and the student is asymptomatic. However, antigen tests are not reliable and the best practice is to complete a PCR test. The school can not accept home test results.
Contact tracing
With each positive COVID case, SunRidge staff contacts the district COVID coordinator and confirms the required notifications. A checklist is being created to expedite who gets contacted and what protocols to follow.
Cleaning and General Protocols
When there is a positive COVID case on campus the relevant rooms are disinfected. The custodian and site coordinator have disinfected rooms as an additional safety precaution during the recent parent conference days. We are continuing to follow all protocols including monitoring symptoms, frequent hand washing /sanitizing, wearing masks, opening windows and doors for ventilation, cleaning shared surfaces, eating outdoors (or spaced apart on rainy days), and providing separate play areas for classes.
Public health is involved whenever there is a positive COVID case on campus.

Masks
Masks are to be worn correctly and fit closely. Nose and chin should be covered completely by the mask.

If you or your child have not already been vaccinated, and you are able, we strongly encourage you to do so.
What you Need to Know about COVID-19
Testing
When a positive COVID test occurs for a student that has been at school, the classroom is sanitized including desks and chairs, sink, doorknob, towel, sanitizer, and soap dispensers, and vacuumed.
Contact Tracing
When contact tracing is required the school and district will work with the Public Health Department. No contact tracing is needed on a family’s part though it is considerate to make other close contacts in your life aware of the exposure and to monitor symptoms of those especially who were close contacts. Contacts of a close contact are notified within the school. Families should notify those in their circle who may have been in contact with a student/person who receives a positive COVID test, (a close contact).
Modified Quarantine
Studies from the distance learning experience last year indicate that students do better when they are in school. When students have been in close contact with someone who has COVID, they are considered to be on a modified quarantine and can still attend school as long as they are tested twice during the modified quarantine and are without symptoms.
A modified quarantine is for the purpose of attending school. All other extracurricular activities at school and activities within the community (birthday parties, play dates) are to be avoided during the modified quarantine period.
Student Quarantine Protocol
Closing a Class
When there are several positive cases in a class, the district works with the county Public Health department and it is the Public Health department’s decision whether to close a class.
