The SunRidge Charter Council acts in an advisory capacity for the school to the Twin Hills School Board and the SunRidge Director, and serves as a delegate body of the THUSD to set school policies, plans, procedures, and priorities as outlined in its charter or in annual contracts or memoranda of understanding.
The Charter Council consists of a minimum of five (5) members: two (2) teachers, two (2) parents and one non-parent community member. Membership may be expanded as needed, with the intention of keeping the ratio of parents to faculty members equal. Elected members of the council serve staggered terms of two or three years, with the possibility of reappointment. The SunRidge Director participates in the Charter Council meetings as a non-voting member of the Council.
The Faculty selects the faculty representatives to the Charter Council. The Parent Council selects the parent representatives and the non-parent representative from candidates nominated by a committee comprised of two parents from the Charter Council and two parents from the Parent Council.
The Charter Council meets at least monthly during the school year. All Charter Council meetings are conducted in accordance with the Brown Act and applicable public meeting laws.
The Charter Council is responsible for preparing any and all modifications to the charter, which require the agreement of the full Charter Council. Any Charter Council recommendations to modify the school charter must be approved by the Twin Hills Union School District Board of Trustees prior to implementation. Material revisions and amendments shall be made pursuant to the standards, criteria and time lines in Education Code Section 47605.
